The Standard-Examiner is excited to announce the 8th annual Standard-Examiner High School Battle of the Bands being held Friday, February 24, 2012 at the Union Station in Ogden. The Standard-Examiner encourages all invited high schools to send ONE band each to this great event. The “Battle” gives bands a chance to represent their school, perform on stage in front of a great crowd, work with sound and stage professionals and win some great prizes!
• $500 cash from the Standard-Examiner
• $500 gift certificate to the Newgate Mall
• Studio interview and performance to be aired live over the air on 88.1FM
• Song produced, mixed, mastered by the Bassmint Pros (the winner will receive 3-4 hours at Kitefishing Studios working along with two of the state’s best producers).
• The winning band will also open for King Niko at Weber State University’s Concert Series on Saturday, February 25, 2012 and will be featured at the Newgate Mall’s My School’s Cool Back to School concert (date TBA).
• $250.00 gift certificate to the Newgate Mall
• $100 gift certificate to the Newgate Mall
In addition to all above prizes, first, second and third place band winners will also receive a band photo session from Masterpiece Images.
In addition, the high school with the highest audience attendance at the Battle will be awarded a new, portable sound system (valued over $1000) from Music Village.
Please abide by the following rules while competing:
• A band is defined as two or more people. Solo artists will not be allowed to compete in the Standard-Examiner Battle of the Bands.
• The school or band must provide a chaperone for the band (parent, teacher, etc.), who must be present and with the band at all times. Contact information for the chaperone, including name and phone number is required.
• No vulgar lyrics (obscenities, profanity, violence, etc.). Lyrics to the songs the band will perform during the competition must be attached to the application. Battle of the Bands staff will review lyrics to make sure they are appropriate for a school/family venue. If a band/band member becomes vulgar during their performance, it will be ended and the band will be disqualified.
• Lyrics must be original - NO cover songs.
• During the performance NO objects can be thrown to the audience and NO mic swinging. NO crowd surfing. (Any damage to borrowed equipment is the responsibility of performing band.)
• Any special requests for equipment or setup must be included on the equipment requirement sheet. The organizers have the right to deny any request deemed unnecessary.
• Contestants will be responsible for setting up and removing their equipment from the stage and backstage areas.
• Each band will be allotted 10 minutes. Points will be deducted for each 10 seconds over time.
• The order of band performance will be decided by random drawing by the contest organizers. Bands will be notified of their performance time in advance of the competition. (If a band has a time conflict, consideration will be given where possible. ) Contest organizers reserve the right to make schedule changes as necessary to maintain the flow of the performance.
