Dr. David Defay is a true leader in every sense of the word. He is a visionary, a skilled orthodontist, compassionate and fully dedicated to improving not only his business, but his community as well. Dr. Defay graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Business from Utah State University where he was the president of the pre-medical honor society and the recipient of many awards, most notably the ASUSU Outstanding Service Award. Dr. Defay attended Ohio State University for dental school where he was the College of Dentistry Student Body President and the recipient of the Ohio State Professional Student of the Year Award. He graduated at the top of his class from Ohio State and attended the University of Iowa for Orthodontic Residency. While still in residence, Dr. Defay prepared to become a Board Certified Orthodontist. At the young age of 30, Dr. Defay achieved Diplomate status from the American Board of Orthodontics–an achievement that only one in three orthodontics reaches in their lifetime.

Dr. Defay brought his passion for leadership, and business acumen to Kaysville, UT, when he purchased Rampton Orthodontics as Dr. Clark Rampton prepared to retire. The practice is now Defay Orthodontics. In a competitive environment, Dr. Defay established himself and his team as a leader in the orthodontic industry. With a focus on quality, fun and expertise, Dr. Defay has grown his practice by a notable percentage. He leads his successful team by regularly meeting and discussing the Seven Habits of Highly Effective People. He encourages his team to implement each habit in the work place and at home. Along with encouraging betterment in the workplace, Dr. Defay is also passionate about encouraging betterment in his local schools. He hosts dental hygiene focused field trips for 10 local elementary schools. He sponsors 3 Citizenship Award Ceremonies for local Junior Highs, attends Davis High’s Red Ribbon Week to promote healthy living and sponsors many more school programs, Dr. Defay attributes his success to a solid education. He wants to help improve and support education in any way he can. He feels a strong education leads to strong businesses, strong leaders and strong communities.

Dr. Defay is also a leader among his colleagues. He was selected by his peers as the Top Dentists Orthodontist of the Year in 2012 and nominated again in 2014. He is respected as one of the best in the field of Orthodontics. Many have said that his attention to detail and kind demeanor make Dr. Defay’s smiles some of the best in Utah! Dr. Defay is constantly striving to improve the Dental Industry and increase dental access to all who need it. He is the co-leader of a Spear Study group which brings together local dentist and dental specialists to discuss and study dental-specific cases. He is also the area’s orthodontic representative to the Dental Cooperative which helps businesses provide affordable dental care for their employees.

Dr. Defay lives in Kaysville with his wife, Ariel, and his three children. He is a leader in education, orthodontics, dentistry and his community.
